SP Leader Questions Governments Intentions Amid Protests

Lucknow, July 18: Samajwadi Party (SP) national spokesperson Ashutosh Verma has raised questions regarding the government’s intentions concerning the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), paper leaks, coalition politics, and the case of activist Sonam Wangchuk. He stated that the government is anxious about the proposed protests on July 20 and the public outrage that may follow.

Speaking to a news agency after Sonam Wangchuk was taken from Jantar Mantar to Safdarjung Hospital, Verma said, “The government is trembling at the voices that will rise in support of Sonam Wangchuk or in support of the people of the country on the 20th. That is why they removed Sonam Wangchuk from the protest site today. They do not want such a massive wave of anger against the government to hit the streets.”

He added that while the protest may have been halted today, the pulse of the youth in the country has shifted against the government, and they are preparing to oust it from power.

Verma emphasized that there should be democracy within the party, but it should not pose a threat to the party’s existence. He noted that while discussions about Punjab are ongoing, similar issues are also being observed in Uttar Pradesh, where many leaders are making independent statements throughout the day, discussing breaking alliances and exerting pressure on coalitions.

Regarding the UCC bill, Ashutosh Verma reiterated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has mentioned it in their manifestos for 2014, 2019, and 2024. He questioned why the BJP has failed to implement the UCC across the country, especially when it is being applied in smaller states like Assam, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh.

On pressing national issues, the SP spokesperson highlighted two major concerns: theft at the Ram Temple and the ongoing paper leaks in competitive examinations. He claimed that over 100 question papers have leaked in the last ten months, jeopardizing the future of the youth in the country. According to him, the government is not paying adequate attention to these serious issues and is attempting to divert public attention through other matters.
