Patna, July 17: A high-level review meeting was held in Bihar under the joint chairmanship of the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police (DGP) to effectively prevent cyber crimes, ensure prompt action, and raise widespread awareness about cyber security among the public.
The meeting was attended via video conferencing by all district magistrates, senior superintendents of police, police superintendents, and senior officials from relevant departments, including deputy superintendents of police from the cyber cell.
During the meeting, the current status of cyber crimes, the evolving nature of cyber fraud, swift case resolution, preservation of digital evidence, inter-state coordination, and effective and timely actions against cyber criminals were reviewed. All districts were instructed to ensure prompt action in cyber crime cases and to take strict legal action against offenders.
The meeting also reviewed the special campaign ‘Operation Cyber Prahar’ conducted by the Bihar Police. This campaign focuses on coordinated actions against cyber criminals, swift action on bank accounts and mobile numbers used in cyber fraud, technical analysis, inter-state coordination, and efforts to dismantle cyber networks. All districts were directed to operate the campaign in mission mode, ensuring regular actions and continuous monitoring.
The Chief Secretary emphasized that preventing cyber crime is not only a law and order issue but is also directly linked to public awareness. He instructed all district magistrates to run extensive awareness campaigns in collaboration with district administration, education departments, banking institutions, panchayats, self-help groups, and other relevant departments so that citizens can stay alert to various methods of cyber fraud.
The DGP directed all superintendents of police and cyber units to ensure quick responses in cyber crime cases, effective use of technical resources, widespread promotion of the cyber helpline, and timely resolution of complaints. He stated that continuous and coordinated action against cyber criminals is the effective solution to this challenge.
It was also decided in the meeting that July 21, 2026, would be celebrated as ‘Cyber Tuesday’ across Bihar. On this occasion, special public awareness campaigns will be conducted in all districts. Programs related to cyber security, awareness rallies, workshops, and discussions will be organized in schools, colleges, panchayats, government offices, bank branches, and public places. Citizens will be informed about safe digital transactions, measures to prevent cyber fraud, and the use of the cyber helpline 1930 and the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
At the end of the meeting, all districts were instructed to effectively implement the strategy of “prevention, prompt action, and widespread public awareness” against cyber crimes to make the state government’s initiative ‘Operation Cyber Prahar’ successful and to turn ‘Cyber Tuesday’ into a broad public participation campaign to achieve the goal of a cyber-secure Bihar.
