Pune, July 18: In a bid to maintain law and order, the Pune police have announced a prohibitory order under sections 37(1), 37(2), and 37(3) of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951. This order will be in effect for 14 days, starting from July 21 at 12:01 AM until August 3 at 12:00 AM across the Pune police commissionerate area.
According to the order issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) Dr. Prashant Amrutkar, the restrictions are being implemented in light of various political parties and social organizations planning protests, demonstrations, and other movements, including the celebration of Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe Jayanti and other festivals.
The order prohibits gatherings of five or more people without prior permission from the police commissioner, as well as organizing meetings or processions. Additionally, carrying explosives, flammable materials, stones, weapons, swords, spears, sticks, guns, or any other items that could cause physical harm is banned.
Moreover, displaying or burning effigies, chanting provocative slogans, making obscene or objectionable speeches in public, and disseminating materials that could disturb public peace, morality, or state security are also prohibited.
A significant provision in the order states that actions aimed at spreading fear, threatening, or glorifying crimes through social media posts will also be subject to legal action.
However, this order does not apply to government employees on duty, authorized personnel carrying weapons, and private security guards or watchmen carrying sticks up to 3.5 feet in length.
The police have clarified that violations of this order will lead to legal action under section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951. Investigations and punitive processes related to violations may continue even after the order expires.
The Pune police have urged citizens to comply with the prohibitory orders and assist the administration in maintaining law and order.
