Jaipur, May 27 – Punjab Kings, led by captain Shreyas Iyer, stormed into the top two of the IPL 2025 standings with a commanding 7-wicket win over Mumbai Indians on Monday. The victory, sealed at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, secured Punjab’s spot in Qualifier 1 of the playoffs.

Mumbai Post 185 Despite Bright Start
After losing the toss and being put in to bat, Mumbai Indians got off to a brisk start thanks to Rohit Sharma (24) and Ryan Rickelton (27), who capitalized during the powerplay. However, both batters failed to convert their starts into substantial innings.
Suryakumar Yadav, continuing his sublime form, played a classy knock of 57 runs and anchored the innings through the middle overs. Skipper Hardik Pandya (26) and Naman Dhir (20) provided quick runs, but Arshdeep Singh’s exceptional final over — conceding only three runs and picking up two wickets — denied Mumbai the momentum they needed. The five-time champions ended their innings at 185/8 in 20 overs.
For Punjab, Arshdeep Singh, Marco Jansen, and Vijaykumar Vyshak picked up two wickets each, while Harpreet Brar chipped in with one.
Inglis, Arya Steer Punjab to Clinical Win
Chasing a target of 186, Punjab Kings had a cautious start, losing Prabhsimran Singh early for 13. But the match turned on its head with a dazzling partnership between Priyansh Arya (62) and Josh Inglis (73), who took the attack to Mumbai’s premier bowlers with ease.
The duo paced their innings smartly — blending aggression with composure — and laid a solid foundation for the win. Inglis, in particular, was ruthless against the spinners and played with flair through the off-side. Their stand made the chase a mere formality.
Shreyas Iyer then applied the finishing touch, guiding Punjab home in the 19th over with a composed knock and sealing the win with a six.
Mitchell Santner claimed two wickets for Mumbai, while Jasprit Bumrah managed one, but the rest of the attack failed to contain the flow of runs.
Punjab Looks Ahead to Qualifier 1
With this win, Punjab Kings not only booked a spot in the playoffs but also guaranteed a top-two finish — giving them two chances to reach the final. The team looks balanced and confident heading into the business end of the tournament.
