IndiGo pilot assaulted by passenger over flight delay, FIR filed

New Delhi : An IndiGo pilot was assaulted by a passenger on a flight from Delhi to Goa on Sunday after the flight was delayed due to fog. The pilot has filed a complaint with the Delhi Police, who have filed an FIR.

The incident took place on IndiGo flight 6E-2175, which was delayed by several hours due to fog. The passenger, identified as Sahil Kataria, is seen in a video that went viral on social media running up to the pilot and punching him in the face.

The incident occurred as the pilot was making an announcement to passengers about the delay.

The delay was reportedly caused by heavy fog and traffic congestion at the airport.

Sources said the assault took place on Sunday afternoon as tensions rose among passengers who had been waiting for hours due to poor visibility and traffic congestion.

According to the police, the flight’s co-pilot, Anup Kumar, and security personnel came to the IGI Police Station and filed a complaint about Sahil Kataria, who allegedly assaulted and abused the co-pilot on Sunday.

A senior police officer said, “He misbehaved on the flight and assaulted the co-pilot and created a ruckus inside the aircraft. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered under sections 323, 341, 290 and 22 of the Indian Penal Code and the Aircraft Rules and an investigation has been initiated.”

The assault has been condemned by the aviation industry. The Federation of Indian Airlines (FIA) said in a statement that it “strongly condemns the incident of assault on the IndiGo pilot by a passenger”.

The FIA said that it is working with the authorities to ensure that the passenger is brought to justice.
