Ahmedabad, March 8: India has made history by scoring 92 runs without losing a wicket during the powerplay in the final match of the T20 World Cup 2026 against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. This achievement ties the world record previously set by the West Indies, who scored 92 runs with one wicket down against Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup 2024.
The Netherlands holds the second position on this list, having scored 91 runs for the loss of one wicket against Ireland in 2014. England had previously scored 89 runs while losing three wickets against South Africa in the first six overs of their innings in 2016. In this World Cup, India had also scored 86 runs with one wicket down against Namibia in the powerplay.
The Indian team has amassed 137 runs for the loss of one wicket in the first 11 overs. Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson formed a strong partnership, adding 98 runs for the first wicket in just 7.1 overs. Abhishek scored 52 runs off 21 balls, hitting three sixes and six fours, before being dismissed. Sanju Samson is currently at 50 runs off 33 balls, while Ishan Kishan remains not out at 27 runs.
