PM Modi Urges Tourists to Spend on Local Purchases

New Delhi, July 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged with participants of the ‘Vibrant Village Program’ on Sunday, expressing his delight at the initiative’s ability to instill a strong sense of nation-building among the youth. During this interaction, he made a heartfelt appeal to citizens and tourists alike.

Welcoming enthusiastic young participants representing nearly 250 districts across the country, PM Modi praised this remarkable national engagement. He specifically addressed participants from Jaunpur, inquiring whether they had made any local purchases during their visit. One participant responded affirmatively, mentioning they had shopped extensively and made digital payments.

PM Modi urged, “I request all citizens that whenever you travel, it is our responsibility to spend at least 5% of our total budget on local purchases. This will not only provide employment to the local people but also help their identity reach every corner of the country. Therefore, shopping is essential.”

Recalling the successful launch of the ‘My Young India – My India’ platform a few years ago, he commended its extensive outreach to millions of young citizens. He noted, “Today, young companions of My India are doing commendable work across the country.”

The Prime Minister encouraged youth to move beyond virtual interactions and understand the realities on the ground. He elaborated on sending young citizens to border villages in Himachal, Uttarakhand, and Ladakh, highlighting that over 400 out of three lakh participants were selected to embrace local culture and witness the deep patriotism driving these regions. He stated, “Connecting our culture with theirs is the best example of ‘One India, Great India’.”

Reflecting on his long-standing relationships with border communities before assuming office, PM Modi reminisced about celebrating Diwali with soldiers stationed at the borders and paid tribute to the sacrifices made by soldiers on Kargil Vijay Diwas. He emphasized that these brave soldiers raised the flag of victory under challenging conditions, making the entire experience of the Vibrant Village Program truly remarkable.

Highlighting the importance of developed villages in building a developed India, the Prime Minister stressed the need for continuous and extensive change in these areas. Acknowledging the tough living conditions in border areas, he praised the spirit of the people who, despite hardships, live with a sense of patriotism. He criticized past administrative neglect that left these areas, often referred to as ‘the last village’, without basic amenities like roads, electricity, and hospitals. PM Modi expressed pride in the unwavering patriotism of the villagers despite their challenging circumstances.

He also mentioned villages that were once deserted but are now bustling with activity, fostering an environment for girls’ education and local income generation. He noted that these changes are systematically occurring due to the Vibrant Village Program.

The Prime Minister called on the youth to actively contribute to the government’s focus on border tourism and instructed each participant to share their experiences with at least a hundred peers. He concluded, “I urge every young companion to share your genuine experiences with at least a hundred other youths.”
