Udaipur, October 8 (Udaipur Kiran): A three-day charity cricket tournament, All Stars Cricket Invitational, will be organised at Field Club, Udaipur, from October 9 to 11 to support the welfare and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities.

The tournament is being organised in support of Viklang Shikshak Seva Sansthan, Jodhpur, an organisation working for the welfare, rehabilitation and empowerment of persons with disabilities. The event aims to raise funds for the institution and support its efforts towards rehabilitation and self-reliance of people with disabilities.

Four Teams to Participate

The tournament is being organised by social worker Jahnavi Kumari Mewar and former cricketer Uday Bawa. Olympic trap shooter Shagun Chowdhary, who represented India at the 2012 London Olympics, and Japan’s Saori Yogini are also associated with the event as key members.

Local support for the tournament is being provided by Udaipur-based marble businessman, hotelier and social worker Veeramdev Singh Krishnawat and BCCI cricket umpire Dr Ajat Shatru Singh Shivrati.

Four teams—All Stars, Mayo College Alumni, Excelsior Cricket Club and host Field Club—will compete in the tournament.

The All Stars team will feature former cricketers from reputed public schools including The Doon School, Mayo College, Lawrence School Sanawar and Daly College.

Tournament organising secretary Uday Bawa is also an experienced cricketer. He represented India and played First Division cricket for Cambridgeshire Minor Counties in the UK during 1995-96.

Six T20 Matches Over Three Days

According to media in-charge Dr Ajat Shatru Singh Shivrati, a total of six matches will be played over the three days. The matches will be conducted in the T20 format according to BCCI playing conditions.

The tournament will bring together around 200 distinguished guests from different cities in India as well as New York, England, Singapore and Japan.

As part of the initiative, a fundraising programme will also be held at Heritage Hotel Chunda Palace on the evening of October 10. The event will focus on raising financial resources for the institution and supporting the rehabilitation and self-reliance of persons with disabilities.

Jahnavi Kumari Mewar has been working through several non-profit organisations, including Power of Policy, to support and strengthen institutions working for people in need.

The organisers said the three-day cricket event is intended to combine sport with social support and contribute towards the welfare and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities.
