As Holi 2025 approaches, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe weather alert for multiple states, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and heat waves in different parts of the country. The changing weather conditions could affect celebrations, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Gujarat.

With some regions experiencing a sharp drop in temperature due to cloud movement, while others brace for scorching heat, the IMD has cautioned residents to stay alert to sudden shifts in weather patterns.
Tamil Nadu to Experience Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms
Southern India, particularly Tamil Nadu, is set to face heavy downpours in the coming days. The IMD predicts that thunderstorms will hit the southern parts of Tamil Nadu on March 11, accompanied by intense rainfall. Given the severity of the forecast, an orange alert has been issued for the state, warning residents to take necessary precautions.
Himachal Pradesh Braces for Rain and Snowfall
The weather department has also forecast rain and thunderstorms across Himachal Pradesh, issuing a yellow alert in response. Higher-altitude areas of the state, including Gondla, may witness light snowfall on March 11, although the overall snowfall levels remain below average this season. Residents and tourists have been advised to exercise caution while traveling through hilly areas.
Heatwave Warning for Rajasthan and Odisha
While some states prepare for heavy rain, others are facing scorching temperatures.
- Southwest Rajasthan is expected to experience extreme heat from March 11 to 12, with IMD issuing a heatwave warning.
- Odisha will also see temperatures soar, with a heatwave predicted on March 13 and 14. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours.
Gujarat to Witness Record-Breaking Heat
The rising temperatures in Gujarat have prompted the IMD to issue a yellow alert as the state is expected to endure a severe heatwave until March 12.
In Rajkot, the maximum temperature has already reached a scorching 41.1°C, indicating record-breaking heat levels. Officials have urged people to take necessary precautions against heat exhaustion and dehydration.
Uttar Pradesh: Rain Expected to Impact Holi Celebrations
Uttar Pradesh, one of the key states celebrating Holi, is likely to experience rainfall and thunderstorms in select areas:
- March 14: Western UP may receive scattered showers and thundershowers, while eastern UP is expected to have clear skies.
- March 15: Light rainfall is anticipated in parts of western UP. However, no strong wind alerts have been issued for this period.
Residents planning to celebrate Holi outdoors have been advised to check weather forecasts before making arrangements.
Precautionary Measures for Extreme Weather
