
Wayanad, July 30 (Udaipur Kiran) — In Kerala’s Wayanad district, severe rainfall has led to a devastating landslide early today. Over 100 people are feared trapped due to the landslide, and six fatalities have been reported, including two children. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has launched extensive relief and rescue operations. The Indian Air Force has dispatched two helicopters, MI-17 and ALH, from Sulur at 7:30 AM for aerial support.
According to the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority, fire services and NDRF teams have been deployed to the affected area. An additional NDRF team is en route to Wayanad. The Chief Medical Officer of Wayanad has announced that the health department and National Health Mission have set up a control room. Emergency helpline numbers 9656938689 and 8086010833 have been released for assistance.
A state official reported that the landslide occurred in various hilly areas near Meppadi in Wayanad. There is a significant concern about the number of people trapped in the area. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority’s Facebook post noted that two teams from the Kannur Defence Security Corps have been directed to assist in the rescue efforts. Heavy rainfall is obstructing rescue operations.
