New Delhi, July 2: In the first T20 International match between India and England, Vaibhav SuryaVanshi was once again left out of the playing eleven. Former Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar believes that this delay in his international debut will increase pressure on Vaibhav.
Gavaskar, speaking with Sony Sports Network, stated, “Whenever Vaibhav gets a chance, this delay will put more pressure on him. However, at the age of 15, you don’t think much about pressure. He knows that if he gets a chance in the second and third matches, he must perform well. But he is happy to be part of the team. The Indian team is filled with fantastic players from whom Vaibhav can learn a lot.”
If given a chance in the series against England, Vaibhav will become the youngest player to compete in men’s T20 Internationals. Currently, this record belongs to Ireland’s Joshua Little, who made his debut at the age of 16 years and 309 days. He would also surpass Sachin Tendulkar to become the youngest player to represent India, as Sachin debuted at the age of 16.
The first T20 International match between India and England was washed out due to rain. After winning the toss and opting to bat first, India scored 189 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. However, heavy rain prevented England from batting, leading to the match being abandoned. Abhishek Sharma (59 runs) and captain Shreyas Iyer (68 runs) both played significant innings, while Shivam Dube scored an unbeaten 42 runs off 21 balls. However, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, and Tilak Varma could not make a notable impact with the bat.
