Jammu, July 2: The annual Amarnath Yatra was officially inaugurated on Thursday as Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the first batch of pilgrims from Jammu. Prior to the departure, Sinha performed a prayer ceremony.
Present at the event were MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, Leader of the Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Sunil Sharma, and BJP MLA Arvind Gupta.
On social media platform ‘X’, Sinha posted, “Har-Har Mahadev. The journey to the sacred abode of Baba Barfani has commenced. The first batch of pilgrims for the Amarnath Yatra 2026 has been flagged off from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu.”
He further expressed, “The journey to Shri Amarnath Ji is a spiritual awakening. Every step taken on this sacred path is a testament to unwavering faith and devotion towards Baba Amarnath. I wish all pilgrims a safe, prosperous, and spiritually fulfilling journey. May Lord Shiva bless us all.”
MP Jugal Kishore Sharma mentioned that this year, there seems to be a higher number of pilgrims compared to previous years. He assured that there are no shortcomings in the arrangements, with the administration, especially the municipal corporation, tourism department, police, and various other government agencies working tirelessly to ensure all facilities for the devotees.
Sharma encouraged people from across the country to join the Yatra and seek blessings from Baba Barfani.
Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma noted the enthusiasm and excitement among the pilgrims for the Amarnath Yatra. He stated that the journey, which will continue until August 28, is unique and holds a special place as a sacred site where Baba Barfani is believed to give darshan.
BJP MLA Arvind Gupta expressed pride in having the opportunity to flag off the Yatra alongside Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, highlighting the festive spirit in Jammu city in anticipation of the pilgrimage.
