India Sets 190-Run Target Against England in T20 Series Opener

Chester-le-Street, July 1: India has set a target of 190 runs for England in the first match of the ongoing T20 series at Riverside Ground on Wednesday. Abhishek Sharma and captain Shreyas Iyer played crucial roles in achieving this formidable score, despite light rain during the innings.

Winning the toss and opting to bat, the Indian team faced an early setback. In the second over, Sanju Samson (1) was caught by Tom Banton, and Ishan Kishan (0) was run out on the last ball of the over, leaving India at just 6 runs with two wickets down.

However, Abhishek Sharma and captain Shreyas Iyer steadied the innings, forming a partnership of 82 runs for the first wicket in just 38 balls. Abhishek scored 59 runs off 24 balls, hitting 4 sixes and 6 fours, completing his half-century in just 20 balls.

After Abhishek’s dismissal, Iyer took charge, adding 36 runs with Tilak Varma for the fourth wicket. Varma contributed 13 runs before getting out. Iyer then partnered with Shivam Dube, adding 41 runs for the fifth wicket in 25 balls, guiding the team to a strong total.

Iyer scored 68 runs off 47 balls, including 1 six and 6 fours, while Dube remained unbeaten on 42 runs from 21 balls, hitting 3 sixes and 2 fours, leading India to a score of 189/7. For England, Saqib Mahmood was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets, while Adil Rashid and Sam Curran claimed 1 wicket each.
