Beijing, July 1: The Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) convened a meeting on June 30 to study and implement flood control and drought relief efforts. General Secretary Xi Jinping presided over the meeting.
The meeting emphasized that this year, during the main flood season, China is likely to experience more frequent extreme weather and climate-related events, raising concerns over both drought and flooding. All sectors and relevant departments are urged to take concrete steps to effectively address flood control, drought relief, and disaster management.
It was highlighted that the safety of people’s lives should always be the top priority, with improvements needed in monitoring and forecasting accuracy. Immediate and decisive actions must be taken to relocate people to safe areas to prevent large-scale casualties.
The meeting also stressed the necessity for prompt and efficient emergency rescue and disaster relief operations. Enhancements in the preparation of forces, equipment, and materials, as well as strengthening overall planning and preparedness, are essential to improve rescue capabilities in extreme situations.
CPC committees and governments at all levels were called upon to earnestly implement the decisions and plans of the CPC Central Committee and strictly enforce the accountability system for flood control and drought relief.
