Misuse of Zakat Fund and Waqf Donations Alleged by Maulana Ifrarim Hussain

Aligarh, July 1: Shahi Chief Mufti Maulana Ifrarim Hussain has accused of large-scale misuse of donations related to the Zakat fund and Waqf. He demanded greater transparency and accountability in the management of Muslim charitable institutions, stating that the benefits of Zakat and Waqf income are not reaching the poor, orphans, and needy individuals, necessitating strict action in this matter.

In response to questions regarding alleged theft in Zakat, Maulana Ifrarim Hussain claimed that there is significant misappropriation occurring within sources associated with Muslims, such as mosques, madrasas, and shrines like Haji Ali and Ajmer Sharif. He alleged that nearly ₹40,000 crores intended for aiding the poor, orphans, and needy are being misused, with affluent individuals using these resources for personal gain through theft and looting, amassing vast properties in their names.

Hussain pointed out that theft of Zakat is happening within mosques and similar situations exist in shrines. The most significant impact is on the poor and orphans, as the funds meant for them are not reaching their intended recipients. Consequently, a large section of the Muslim community has fallen behind and is unable to meet even their basic needs. He also highlighted that there are significant irregularities in the income generated from Waqf properties, with an estimated annual income of ₹50,000 crores being misappropriated. If utilized correctly, this amount could significantly aid the poor and contribute to the development of weaker sections within the Muslim community.

Hussain further expressed his desire for strict action similar to that taken by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath regarding theft cases associated with the Shri Ram Temple, where a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed, FIRs were filed, and prompt and stringent actions were taken. He urged for a fair investigation and action in this significant financial matter related to Zakat and Waqf, emphasizing that this large sum is meant to benefit the most vulnerable and deserving individuals in society.
