Team India came under fire for their shoddy performance in the first two ODIs against South Africa. The visitors made plenty of mistakes in the middle whereas Proteas were sharp and clinical in both games. Temba Bavuma couldn’t have asked for a better performance from his boys.

At first, South Africa beat India by 31 runs at Boland Park and then took a 1-0 lead in the series. After that, Indian players were under pressure as they had to win the game to stay alive. However, that wasn’t meant to be. Proteas easily got the better of India in the second ODI by 7 wickets.

As a result, they clinched the ODI series by 2-1. South Africa drew plaudits for their extraordinary performance as they got rid of India in the Test and ODI series. Now, they will be looking forward to inflicting a 3-0 whitewash on the Men in Blue in the next game.

Rishabh Pant was the pick of the batsmen for India in the second game. The southpaw rose to the occasion and scored 85 runs off 71 deliveries with the help of 10 fours and 2 sixes. The third and final ODI will be held at Newlands, Cape Town on January 23 (Sunday).

It is a venue that hosted the Test series decider. However, Proteas came out on top much to India’s annoyance. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer has suggested three key changes in India’s playing XI for the third ODI against Proteas.

Speaking to Star Sports, Gambhir had asked for three changes in the team’s starting XI. The former cricketer feels that Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ravi Ashwin should be rested to make way for Jayant Yadav, Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj in the third game.

“Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ravi Ashwin should be rested for the next match, and changes in the batting order aren’t needed. Jayant Yadav should be given a chance along with seamers like Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna. India need to develop their second-string team and gives chances to bowlers who can bowl above 140 kmph in South Africa,” Gambhir told Star Sports after 2nd ODI.
