Four New Judges Appointed to Rajasthan High Court, Strength Rises to 37

Jodhpur, March 26, 2025 – In a significant development for Rajasthan’s judiciary, four new judges have been appointed to the Rajasthan High Court, marking the second such appointment in 2025. With this, the total number of sitting judges in the High Court will increase to 37, against the sanctioned strength of 50.

Judges Appointed

Names Approved from Jaipur and Jodhpur

As per the official gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice, signed by Joint Secretary Jagannath Srinivasan, the newly appointed judges are:

  • Anand Sharma – Advocate from Jaipur

  • Sunil Beniwal, Mukesh Rajpurohit, and Sandeep Shah – Advocates from Jodhpur

These appointments were made following the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium, which had proposed seven names on March 7, 2025.

Previous Appointments Earlier This Year

Earlier in the year, three judicial officers were also elevated to the Rajasthan High Court bench. These include:

  • Chandrashekhar Sharma – DJ, Jodhpur Metro

  • Pramil Kumar Mathur – Registrar General

  • Chandraprakash Srimali – DJ, Jaipur Metro Second

All three are 1992 batch judicial officers and were appointed from the judicial service quota.

Strengthening the Judiciary

With the addition of these four judges, the High Court’s current strength increases from 33 to 37 judges. The move is expected to improve case disposal rates and ease the burden on the existing judiciary.

The last significant appointment of this scale took place two years ago, when eight judges were appointed simultaneously—five from the judicial service and three from the Bar.

Background: Rajasthan High Court and Collegium Process

The Rajasthan High Court, which has its principal seat in Jodhpur and a bench in Jaipur, has been facing a growing number of pending cases. Regular elevation of qualified judicial officers and senior advocates is critical for ensuring timely justice delivery.

All High Court judge appointments are made under Article 217 of the Constitution of India, based on recommendations from the Supreme Court Collegium, which comprises the Chief Justice of India and senior-most judges of the Supreme Court.
