Elderly Couple Found Dead Inside Trunk at Udaipur Home, Police Suspect Murder

Udaipur, August 15: The bodies of an elderly couple who had been missing for two days were found stuffed inside a trunk at their home in Udaipur’s Saira area on Friday morning. The bodies were reportedly wrapped in plastic bags and concealed beneath bedding.

The deceased have been identified as Lahri Lal Paliwal (65) and his wife Radha Devi (62), residents of Punawali village under Saira police station.

Saira SHO Shaitan Singh Nathawat said the couple had been missing since the morning of August 12. Their family members reportedly searched the house after noticing a foul smell. When the smell appeared to be coming from a trunk, they opened it and found the bodies inside plastic bags.

Police suspect that unidentified assailants may have killed the couple late Tuesday night and concealed their bodies in the trunk before placing bedding over it to hide the crime. Police are questioning neighbours and other suspects as part of the investigation.

Neighbour found house open

According to information available so far, the couple lived alone at the house. Lahri Lal used to sell milk. When he failed to turn up to deliver milk, a neighbour went to check on him.

The neighbour reportedly found the house door open but could not find either of them inside. The neighbour then informed the couple’s son, Manohar, who works in Rajkot, Gujarat.

Manohar contacted relatives and asked them to search the house and surrounding areas. When no trace of his parents was found, he reached Saira and lodged a missing-person report with the police.

Protest held over couple’s disappearance

Following the couple’s disappearance, a protest was held on Thursday demanding that authorities trace them.

The discovery of their bodies on Friday morning has now led police to investigate the case as a suspected double murder. Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the deaths and questioning people who may have information about the couple’s movements before they went missing.
