Patna, June 14: A significant uproar occurred at Patliputra Railway Station on Sunday due to the Bihar Police’s recruitment examination. The exam was scheduled to take place in two shifts, prompting a large number of candidates to arrive at the station late at night. The situation escalated when candidates created chaos over boarding the exam special train from Patliputra to Katihar. Frustrated students staged a sit-in on the tracks and raised slogans. Reports also indicated that some miscreants vandalized the train during the protest.
Upon receiving news of the disturbance, police from several stations arrived at the scene. Senior officials from the police and administration, including IG Jitendra Rana and the SP, were present to manage the situation. It was reported that IG Rana sustained minor injuries during the chaos, and the Rupaspur police station chief was also slightly injured. Candidates continued their protests, disrupting train operations. To regain control, police fired in the air three times, yet tensions remained high at the station for an extended period.
Currently, police and railway officials are working to calm the candidates and restore normalcy. Security measures at the station have been heightened, with additional police forces deployed.
IG Jitendra Rana stated, “Approximately 200-250 students were blocking the train. When police, along with the RPF, GRP, and district police, attempted to persuade them to clear the path, some began throwing stones. To prevent damage to life and property, police took necessary action. The crowd has been dispersed, and all trains are now operational again. Some of our personnel were also hit by stones, but fortunately, there are no serious injuries or major issues.”
DM Dr. Tyagarajan mentioned, “We received information late at night about some individuals protesting over train arrangements. However, special trains had already been arranged, with two special trains present at the station. Reports indicate that some anti-social elements mingled with the protesters and began throwing stones. Subsequently, the crowd was dispersed with minimal force, and peace has been restored. The situation is now completely calm and under control.”
