Big Breaking : Cops violate JJ act, torture minors for three days in Kotra PS

Udaipur : In a blatant violation of the Juvenile Justice Act (JJ Act), cops kept three minor boys in illegal detention at Kotra police station and tortured them badly. The boys were detained in relation to a bike theft case where they were kept for three days.

The incident came to light after a video of the kids showing their bruises went viral on the social media. Even though the JJ Act clearly specifies that unless the accused has allegedly committed a crime of serious nature, such as rape or murder, an FIRcan’t be filed against minor, they cannot be detained or physically hurt, however cops gave a harsh treatment to the kids. Advocate Harish Paliwal, member of the Child Welfare Committee Udaipur told Udaipur Kiran” We got the information from the child line coordinator on Wednesday and our bench of magistrates spoke to the SHO, Kotra.

This is a clear-cut violation of the JJ Act which states that any minor if accused of any crime has to be produced before the juvenile board and any child in need of special care has to be produced before the Child Welfare Committee. We have instructed the officer to produce the kids before the Juvenile Board on Thursday morning”.

“Some kids were detained for interrogation related to bike theft case. They would be produced before the competent authority of the juvenile board on Thursday. The video which has gone viral only shows kids showing their bruises but there is no visual to claim that they were tortured or beaten by cops at the station.  A detail enquiry will be made to find how the kids sustained injuries and then needful action would be taken”
