Ban on Medicines After Deaths at Kota Medical College

Jaipur, May 9 (Udaipur Kiran) — Following the deaths of two women after their condition deteriorated post caesarean delivery at Kota Medical College, the Drug Control Department has banned the use of medicines and medical items used during their treatment.

Drug Controller Ajay Phatak issued separate letters to Rajasthan Medical Services Corporation Limited and medicine sellers across the state, including retailers and wholesalers, directing them not to supply these medicines until further orders.

The department has stopped the use of 24 types of medicines and medical equipment used in the gynaecology ward after operations at Kota Medical College.

Among these, 15 medicines and medical items were supplied by Rajasthan Medical Services Corporation Limited under the मुख्यमंत्री निशुल्क दवा योजना. These include IV sets, syringes, glucose bottles and several types of injections.

Apart from these, nine other medicines and equipment, including injections, glucose bottles, IV sets and catheters, were purchased locally by the medical college administration and used on patients.

The Drug Control Department has banned the use, sale and supply of all these medicines and equipment until the investigation reports are received.

The Drug Controller has also instructed Rajasthan Medical Services Corporation Limited not to supply the listed medicines to any other government hospitals or medical colleges.

At the same time, lists of the nine locally purchased medicines whose samples have been sent for testing have been circulated among medical stores and wholesalers, and their sale has also been stopped.
