Udaipur, May 9 (Udaipur Kiran) — A woman attacked her husband with an axe in Udaipur and later died by suicide after believing he was dead. Before taking the step, she sent an audio message to her brother-in-law saying, “I will die and I will kill, Dada goodbye. Do not trouble anyone after my death.”
The incident took place on Thursday night in Majawadi village under Gogunda police station area. The injured husband was admitted to the district hospital, where his condition is said to be critical.
Shyam Singh Charan said Umesh Gameti (24) and his wife Durga Gameti (21) had returned home after attending a bhajan sandhya programme on Thursday night. During this time, an argument broke out between the two.
The dispute soon escalated and Durga allegedly attacked Umesh repeatedly with an axe. He suffered serious injuries and his clothes were soaked in blood.
The couple had got married around one-and-a-half years ago and had no children.
Initial investigation revealed that after the attack, Durga believed Umesh had died and in anger hanged herself inside the room.
By Friday afternoon, neighbours became suspicious after nobody came out of the house. When they looked inside, the woman was found hanging while Umesh was lying injured in a pool of blood.
With the help of family members and villagers, Umesh Gameti was immediately taken to the district hospital for treatment. Police brought down the woman’s body and kept it in the hospital mortuary. The post-mortem will be conducted on Saturday.
Shyam Singh Charan said Durga Gameti had sent an audio message to her husband’s elder brother before her death. In the message, she said, “I will die and I will kill, Dada goodbye. Do not trouble anyone after my death.” Police have taken the audio into custody and are investigating different aspects of the case.
