Al Ain, UAE, October 7 (Udaipur Kiran): Marking World Animal Day, observed every year on October 4, Al Ain Zoo reaffirmed its dedication to wildlife protection and endangered species conservation through a variety of educational programs and community-focused activities.

Sheikha Dhahi Al Hassani, School Programs Manager at the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre, said, “For over five decades, Al Ain Zoo has embodied the spirit of World Animal Day, playing a key role in tackling extinction challenges both locally and globally, while raising awareness among younger generations and the wider community about the importance of protecting wildlife.”
In line with this mission, the School Programs section organized several cultural and educational initiatives:
Emirati Heritage Day: The Zoo hosted awareness sessions for 650 national service recruits, highlighting its falconry program dedicated to conserving falcons and promoting sustainable hunting practices. The recruits also explored Arabic hospitality traditions.
Plants and Animals in the Desert: With participation from 101 students of Sultan bin Zayed School, this session explained how desert flora and fauna adapt to harsh conditions and stressed the importance of habitat conservation.
Native Bird Conservation: Community members learned about native birds like falcons and the desert eagle owl, and methods of conserving them.
Saharat Yadooh Program: Held at Majlis Al Maqam as part of Majalis Abu Dhabi, this event showcased traditional sustainability practices for preserving and reusing materials.
Amazing Teeth Classifications: Engaging 140 students from The Indian School, this interactive session introduced animal classification through displays of skulls and teeth.
Since its founding, Al Ain Zoo has been a leader in natural heritage conservation, spearheading successful breeding programs and public awareness initiatives. Through its continued efforts, the Zoo highlights the ecological balance and interconnected relationship between humans, animals, and plants.
