Mumbai, July 5: Shabab Sabri, born on July 6, 1979, in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has made a significant mark in Bollywood with his soulful voice. Coming from a family of renowned Sufi and Qawwali singers, including his late father, Mohammad Iqbal Sabri, and uncle, Ustad Afzal Sabri, Shabab was drawn to music from a young age.
Despite his family’s initial concerns about the struggles in the music industry, they recognized his passion and provided him with formal training in classical music. At just 14, he learned from the esteemed classical vocalist Ustad Rashid Khan of the Rampur-Sahaswan gharana, honing his skills that would later define his career.
After completing his classical education, Shabab performed numerous live shows with his father, gaining valuable stage experience. His family moved to Mumbai after his father’s passing, where he adapted his classical singing style to fit Bollywood music.
In 2010, he got his big break when the music duo Sajid-Wajid offered him the song “Hamka Peeni Hai” for the Salman Khan-starrer “Dabangg.” The song became a massive hit, establishing Shabab’s identity in the film industry. He credits Salman Khan and the music duo for their crucial role in his career.
Following this success, Shabab lent his voice to several popular songs, including “Tere Naina Maar Hi Daalenge” from “Jai Ho” (2014) and “Pawan Udaave Batiya” from “Veer” (2010). He also sang the famous track “Nas Nas Mein” for the film “Welcome Back” (2015), which featured veteran actors Naseeruddin Shah and Anil Kapoor.
In addition to his singing career, Shabab is actively involved in social work, having sung the theme song for the first India-Bangladesh International Wheelchair Cricket Series held in Mumbai. He continues to entertain audiences with new singles like “Rab Rootha” and “Mahi Ve” on digital platforms in 2026.
