Patna, February 25, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran) – The Bihar government’s Bihar Student Credit Card Scheme is offering students an opportunity to pursue higher education with financial support of up to ₹4 lakh at zero per cent interest.

Launched on October 2, 2016, the scheme aims to assist students from economically weaker families who have passed Class 12 and wish to continue their studies. The objective is to ensure that financial constraints do not force deserving students to discontinue education.
Interest-Free Loan Facility
Earlier, beneficiaries were required to pay a certain rate of interest. However, as per the Chief Minister’s announcement, the education loan provided under the scheme is now completely interest-free. Students are required to repay only the principal amount without any additional interest burden.
Loan Amount and Repayment Terms
Under the scheme, eligible students can avail an education loan of up to ₹4 lakh for higher studies.
Loans up to ₹2 lakh can be repaid in 84 monthly instalments (7 years).
Loans above ₹2 lakh can be repaid in up to 120 monthly instalments (10 years).
Repayment begins only after completion of the course and securing employment, ensuring that students do not face financial pressure during their studies.
Eligibility Criteria
To avail benefits under the scheme, applicants must fulfil the following conditions:
The student must be a permanent resident of Bihar.
The applicant must have passed Class 12.
The age of the applicant should not exceed 25 years.
Admission must have been secured in a recognised college or university for higher education.
Permissible Use of Loan
The loan amount can be used for payment of college fees, purchase of books, stationery and laptops, as well as hostel or accommodation expenses. The scheme is applicable for technical, polytechnic and other general courses.
Application Process
Students can apply online through the official portal. After submitting the online application, applicants are required to visit their district’s District Registration and Counselling Centre (DRCC) with all necessary documents for verification. The loan process proceeds after document scrutiny.
For assistance, students can contact the toll-free helpline number 1800 3456 444 or send an email to spmu.bscc@bihar.gov.in.
The Bihar Student Credit Card Scheme continues to provide financial support to students seeking higher education, ensuring that lack of funds does not stand in the way of academic aspirations.
