Villagers burn leopard alive in Udaipur

Udaipur : A leopard died after a mob attacked and set it on fire on saturday  in Kharbad near Rama village on Udaipur-Iswal road on the NH-76. The  big cat was injured in a road accident and happened to enter the human settlement. It mauled an old man in the area which infuriated the villagers. The beast was beaten severely with sticks first, later the mob poured kerosene on the helpless creature and set it on fire.

By the time the forest department and police reached the spot, they found the ashes. According to the forest officers, the leopard was hit by some passing vehicle on friday night. The terrified creature hid overnight behind a shed in one of the farm in Kharbad village. In the morning when the farm owner PremSingh (65) so NathuSingh reached the shed, the beast attacked the old man. Hearing his shouts, villagers gathered at the spot. The injured cat couldnt run to save his life and instead of informing the authorities, the mob cruelly beat the leopard with sticks and spears. They poured kerosene on the semi conscious animal and set it on fire. The people ran away before the authorities arrived. A case has been taken against unidentified people under related sections of the wild life act, ACF Devendra Kumar Tiwari said.
