Union Minister Nitin Gadkari Issues Directions Following MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat’s Intervention
Udaipur, May 10 – A permanent solution is in sight for the recurring disruptions on National Highway 58-E (Udaipur–Jhadol–Som route) due to frequent rockfalls. The initiative follows a formal request by Udaipur MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat, who had written to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, urging immediate intervention.
Responding to the issue, Minister Gadkari has instructed concerned authorities to take necessary action for long-term mitigation of the hazard.

Background of the Issue
In his letter, Dr. Rawat highlighted that although funds for the strengthening and widening of NH 58-E were allocated during the financial year 2017–18, certain stretches—particularly between Kundal and Jhadol—remain prone to frequent rockslides, especially during monsoon and extreme heat.
These slides not only disrupt traffic but also pose serious safety risks. While debris removal is undertaken by local agencies, the geological weakness of the rock formations causes repeated blockages, impeding highway construction and public movement.
To maintain safety, traffic is temporarily being rerouted via the old roadway, which has undergone partial renovations.
Minister’s Assurance and Next Steps
Dr. Rawat’s representation emphasized the need for a permanent structural solution to prevent rockfalls at the two key vulnerable points. In response, Minister Gadkari confirmed in writing that relevant officials have been directed to address the issue on priority.
The intervention paves the way for comprehensive geotechnical evaluation and long-term stabilization of the affected highway segments, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity for commuters and commercial vehicles in southern Rajasthan.
