Tripura Committed to Affordable Healthcare: CM Saha

Agartala, July 9: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha reiterated the state government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare services in Tripura, ensuring that residents can access quality and affordable medical care without the need to travel outside the state or incur heavy medical expenses.

Speaking at the 69th edition of the ‘Chief Minister Samipesh’ public outreach program at his official residence, Saha emphasized that the government is continuously improving the state’s healthcare infrastructure to meet the growing healthcare needs of the population and expanding medical facilities.

“The improvements in Tripura’s healthcare system are now clearly visible. Many ailments that previously required patients to seek treatment in other states are now being treated right here in Agartala. If treatment is unavailable in the state, patients are referred to prestigious government institutions like AIIMS in New Delhi. Telemedicine services at GB Hospital are also aiding in providing better healthcare facilities and benefiting a large number of patients,” he stated.

Saha noted that the government’s focus is not only on expanding healthcare infrastructure but also on ensuring timely and quality medical services for every citizen, regardless of their economic status.

Despite adverse weather and recent natural disasters, a significant number of people from various parts of Tripura attended the public grievance redressal program, many seeking financial and medical assistance for seriously ill family members.

As the head of the Health and Family Welfare Department, Saha personally listened to each case and instructed relevant department officials to take immediate and appropriate action to ensure applicants receive necessary assistance without delay.

Among those seeking medical aid were Rupali Namasudra from Ambasa in Dhalai district (for her child’s treatment), the family of Bikash Debbarma from Dhanbilas village in Kailashahar, Abdul Hussain from North Tripura district (for his wife’s treatment), Prabir Barman from Khowai district (for his son’s eye complications), and Gayatri Bhattacharya from Unakoti district (for severe digestive issues). In two critical cases, the Chief Minister directed officials to arrange immediate specialized treatment for patients at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.

Several residents of Agartala also approached the Chief Minister, pleading for financial and medical help for family members battling serious illnesses like cancer. Saha instructed officials to take necessary steps to provide them with the required assistance.

Members of the Fish Traders Association also met with Saha to discuss various issues affecting their livelihoods and business activities. The Chief Minister assured them that the government would sympathetically consider their concerns and provide all possible support.

During the program, Saha handed over a cheque of ₹3.90 lakh as financial assistance to the family of a deceased individual who lost their life in a recent natural disaster in Agartala. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to providing timely relief and assistance to affected families during crises.

Saha also extended financial aid of ₹4 lakh to the family of Shubhrijit Chowdhury, who tragically lost his life in a recent explosion in the Ramnagar area of Agartala.
