Jaisalmer, May 24 – In a devastating road accident late Friday night, four people, including a forest department official, lost their lives in Rajasthan’s Pokaran region. The crash occurred near Lathi police station area when a Camper vehicle collided head-on with a truck, resulting in a fatal impact that left the vehicle mangled and all occupants trapped inside.

The victims were reportedly en route to investigate a tip-off about illegal deer hunting. Among the deceased were Radheyshyam Vishnoi, a well-known wildlife activist, Shyam Prasad Vishnoi, a retired army personnel, Kanwaraj Singh Bhati, an employee at a local cowshed, and Surendra Chaudhary, a recently appointed forest guard.
Victims Dedicated to Wildlife Conservation
Radheyshyam Vishnoi had earned widespread recognition for his relentless efforts in wildlife conservation, particularly for saving over 1,000 deer during his lifetime. He had been honored with several accolades, including the Century Asia Young Naturalist Award. His colleague Shyam Prasad was known in the community for his service background, and Kanwaraj Singh was actively involved in animal welfare through a local Gaushala (cowshed).
Surendra Chaudhary, hailing from Balotra, had joined the forest department just a year ago and was posted at Lathi Range.
Crash Aftermath: Villages Mourn the Loss
The impact of the collision was so severe that the front portion of the Camper was completely crushed, requiring a crane and metal cutters to extract the bodies. Police and local residents rushed to the scene upon receiving the alert and assisted in rescue operations.
All bodies were sent to Pokaran Hospital for further procedures. The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the local villages, with tributes pouring in for the deceased, especially Radheyshyam Vishnoi, whose contributions to wildlife protection were deeply respected.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, while families and the conservation community mourn the loss of four dedicated individuals who gave their lives in the service of nature.
