New Delhi, July 30: The proceedings of the Lok Sabha were adjourned until 2 PM on Thursday due to a ruckus created by the opposition, marking the ninth day of the monsoon session. Speaker Om Birla suspended the session within just two minutes of its commencement.
The session began at 11 AM with congratulations extended to India’s medal winners at the Commonwealth Games 2026. However, the atmosphere turned chaotic during the question hour when opposition leader Rahul Gandhi’s speech regarding the ‘Lok Exam (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill 2026’ sparked protests.
Despite repeated requests from the Speaker to maintain order, the opposition continued to disrupt the proceedings. “I have urged several times that the question hour is a right of the parliament members. It is a crucial time for government accountability,” stated Speaker Birla.
When the opposition members failed to quiet down, he announced the adjournment of the house until 2 PM.
Earlier, the Anti-Paper Leak Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha by voice vote on Wednesday after a two-day debate, paving the way for stringent legal measures to tackle paper leaks and examination irregularities. This bill was passed amidst widespread protests across the country over the NEET paper leak case, which led to the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
