SP’s letter seeking criminal record of Maharana Mahendra Singh goes viral, Royal condemns govt

Udaipur : In a letter sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister RajNath Singh, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and home minister GulabChand Kataria, Maharana Mahendra Singh, the 76th custodian of the Mewar dynasty has condemned the authorities for initiating an enquiry against him including details of any ‘ongoing criminal proceedings’ pending with the police department. Mahendra Singh came to know of the act recently, when a policeman went to his residence for verification and collecting details.

The cop apparently happened to carry the letter issued by the Udaipur Superintendent of Police (SP) directing the Ghantaghar SHO to compile a detailed report on Mahendra’s SIngh’s activities. The SP had asked the officer to treat the letter on utmost priority since the details were to be sent to Police Headquarters-Jaipur. Mahendra Singh, who is the eldest of the Royal household and served as an MP in the 9th LokSabha has taken it as a personal humiliation and hence wrote to the state and central government to convey his sentiments. ” I have  received a call from the Add SP who apologized for the contents of the letter, however, i have clearly told him that I take exception to such letters delivered to me and it would be better if the police hand in their uniforms should they have been reduced to harassing law abiding citizens in this manner. Such is the worrisome anarchy that is the ‘administration’” the letter read.

According to sources, reason for the sudden enquiry called against the erstwhile royal is being viewed due to his opposition to ‘Padmavat’ movie. The eldest of the royal household had vehemently criticised the use of his clan mentions in the movie and objected to some sequence in the movie regarding the queen Padmavati that had reportedly caused the entire Rajput community to resort to violent protest across the nation.
