‘Smile Udaipur’ Drive: Over 500 Establishments Declared Child Labour- and Begging-Free

Udaipur, January 8: (Udaipur Kiran) The Smile Udaipur campaign, being jointly implemented by the district administration, police department and the Department of Child Empowerment, is receiving strong support from the public to make the tourist city free from child labour and child begging. Traders have extended their support by pasting Child Labour and Child Begging Free stickers at their establishments.

Under the direction of District Collector Namit Mehta, the Smile Udaipur campaign is being conducted from January 1 to March 31 with the combined efforts of the district administration, police department, Department of Child Empowerment, Udaipur, and the District Legal Services Authority. During the first week of January, extensive drives were carried out at major tourist locations and prominent temple areas of the city with the participation of officials from the Department of Child Empowerment, Child Helpline, Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, and social workers from leading NGOs including Bal Suraksha Network, Gayatri Seva Sansthan, Aajeevika Bureau and Mahila Suraksha Anusandhan Kendra.

Nodal Officer of the Smile Udaipur campaign and Assistant Director, Department of Child Empowerment, K.K. Chandravanshi said that between January 1 and 7, operators of more than 500 establishments and shops across Udaipur extended positive cooperation. They declared their premises free from child labour and child begging, pasted official stickers issued by the department, and submitted affidavits. Awareness was also spread among the public through posters, banners and stickers at major intersections and public places.

During the campaign, actions taken by rescue teams of the Department of Child Empowerment, Child Helpline and NGOs were geo-tagged and documented through photographs. Rajasthan State Commission for Protection of Child Rights member K.K. Kumar Kaviya, Assistant Director Chandravanshi, Child Protection Officer Rajkumar Jhinger, Anti-Human Trafficking Unit’s Rekha Meena, District Child Helpline Coordinator Navneet Audichya and team members, along with representatives from Bal Suraksha Network, Gayatri Seva Sansthan, Pras Anusandhan Sanstha and Aajeevika Bureau, were present during various campaign activities.
