Jaipur, May 17 — Rajasthan continues to reel under intense heat conditions, with temperatures in several districts soaring above 45°C. Rajasthan Weather Update

⚠️ Thunderstorm and Rain Alert in Nine Districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate rainfall in nine districts including Kota, Jhalawar, Chittorgarh, and Banswara. Gusty winds and lightning are likely in these regions, and residents have been advised to stay indoors and avoid open spaces during storm activity.

🔥 Heatwave Conditions in Western Rajasthan

The IMD has also issued a heatwave warning for parts of western Rajasthan, especially Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Hanumangarh, and Sri Ganganagar. These areas have been experiencing hot winds from early morning till late evening, and authorities have urged people, particularly children and the elderly, to avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours.

🌡️ Normal Weather in Jaipur and 20 Other Districts

In contrast, regions like Jaipur, Ajmer, Alwar, and Bharatpur are expected to experience relatively stable weather conditions over the next few days. No heatwave or rainfall alerts have been issued for these areas as of now.

💧 Heat Mitigation Measures in Jaipur

In view of rising temperatures, Jaipur Municipal Corporation has begun spraying water using smog guns at major intersections and roads. Additionally, green shade covers have been installed at busy traffic signals to provide relief to commuters from direct sunlight.

🌩️ Storm Activity Forecast (May 17–20)

The IMD predicts post-noon thunderstorms and rain in parts of Kota, Udaipur, Dungarpur, and Pratapgarh between May 17 and May 20. A slight change in weather may also be observed in Jaipur and Bharatpur on May 19 and 20.

Meanwhile, districts like Jhunjhunu, Churu, Hanumangarh, and Sri Ganganagar are likely to experience strong dusty winds, which could further reduce visibility and increase discomfort.

🛑 Advisory for Residents

Residents across the state are advised to:

  • Avoid direct exposure to sunlight during peak hours.

  • Stay hydrated and remain in cool or shaded areas.

  • Be cautious during thunderstorms and dust storms.

  • Follow safety advisories issued by local authorities and weather departments.
