Rajasthan Resolves Panchna Dam Dispute After Two Decades

Jaipur, July 6: The long-standing dispute over the Panchna Dam in Rajasthan’s Karauli district has been resolved after nearly two decades. On Monday, water was released into the canals of the command area as a trial to assess the water distribution system. Additionally, the foundation stone for a lift irrigation project was laid, which will benefit 39 villages surrounding the dam.

Three gates of the Panchna Dam were opened to release water into the Gambhiri River. Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Suresh Singh Rawat, along with Home State Minister and Karauli’s in-charge minister Jawahar Singh Bedham, laid the foundation for two new lift irrigation projects and the remodeling of the PDN system under the Gudla lift project.

These projects, costing approximately 61 lakh, are expected to provide irrigation water to around 13,000 hectares of farmland. Furthermore, water supply to villages in the dam’s catchment and command area will also be ensured.

Before the foundation-laying ceremony at the Devanarayan temple complex in Pahadi village, traditional prayers were conducted. Addressing the gathering, Minister Rawat emphasized the commitment of the Bhajanlal government to fulfill every promise made. He assured that any negligence in work related to public interest would not be tolerated. The release of water from the Panchna Dam after nearly 20 years has brought joy and enthusiasm among the local residents.

A large number of villagers attended the event, along with Rural Development Secretary Krishna Kunal, Divisional Commissioner Nalini Kathotia, Inspector General of Police Kailash Bishnoi, District Collector Akshay Godara, Superintendent of Police Lokesh Sonwal, Karauli MLA Darshan Singh Gurjar, and Chief Engineer Bhuvan.

On June 30, an agreement was reached at the government level to resolve the long-standing dispute regarding the Panchna Dam’s water. Following this, the Water Resources Department began preparations to release water from the dam.

Two days prior to the event, District Collector Akshay Godara, Superintendent of Police Lokesh Sonwal, Executive Engineer Vivek Bansal, and other officials inspected the dam to review the necessary preparations and arrangements for the successful implementation of the project.
