Bhubaneswar : After a gap of almost 45 days, the daily Covid load in Odisha dropped to below 500 as 492 new cases were recorded in the past 24 hours taking the total tally in the state to 12,82,481, Health and Family Welfare department sources said on Sunday. On January 3, the state had reported 424 Covid positive cases.
The sources said of the new infections, 289 were reported from the quarantine centres and 203 were local contact cases. Sundargarh district registered the highest number of 96 cases followed by Khordha (48), Sambalpur (38) and Cuttack (32). These four districts together accounted for 42 percent of the total new cases in the state.
The Covid fatalities in the state on Sunday crossed the 9000 mark to reach 9011 after 17 deaths were recorded in the health audit from five districts with Sundargarh reporting the highest number of seven cases followed by Balasore ( 6), Ganjam (2) and one each in Kalahandi and Puri district. The daily test positivity rate (TPR) also after a long gap dipped below one percent to remain 0.81 percent from 60,084 tests conducted in the past 24 hours. Barring Sundargarh district, all the other 29 districts in the state recorded the test positivity rate below 2 percent.
The active cases further declined to 6308 of which Khordha district alone accounted for 1132 cases followed by Sundargarh (632), Jajpur ( 411).Sambalpur( 367) and Cuttack (346). These five districts together have 45 percent of the total active cases in the state. Official sources said 1266 covid patients were cured of the virus on Saturday, taking the total recoveries in the state to 12,67,109.
