Mumbai ESIC Hospital Fire: Death toll rises to 8

Death toll in Mumbai’s ESIC Kamgar hospital fire has risen to eight; Over 140 were injured and several are still undergoing treatment.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered an enquiry into the incident. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condoled the loss of lives.

Union Minister for Labour & Employment, Santosh Kumar Gangwar has announced compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the kin of the dead, Rs 2 lakh each for the seriously injured and Rs 1 lakh each for those with minor injuries.

The massive fire broke out at the ESIC Kamgar Hospital at Marol in suburban Andheri on Monday evening at about 4 PM and was extinguished at 7.35 PM.
