NEW DELHI, June 20, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran) : Monsoon-related weather activity is expected to continue across most parts of the country on June 21, according to the latest press release issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Rainfall has been forecast in nearly 20 states on Sunday as the southwest monsoon continues its gradual advance across the country.
Several states in eastern, central, southern and northeastern India are expected to witness rainfall. Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds are also likely in many areas. The weather department has advised people to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions, especially in regions where heavy rainfall and lightning are expected.
Northwestern states are also likely to experience changing weather conditions. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected at several places in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi. Both eastern and western Uttar Pradesh may receive rainfall accompanied by strong winds. Rainfall activity is expected to continue in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, which may affect road transport in some areas due to possible landslides. Eastern parts of Rajasthan may also receive scattered rainfall, while most areas of western Rajasthan are expected to remain comparatively dry.
Rainfall Activity to Remain Strong in Eastern and Central India
Monsoon conditions are expected to remain active across eastern and central India. Light to moderate rainfall is likely in many districts of Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. Some areas of Bihar and Jharkhand may receive heavy rainfall. Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal are likely to witness intense showers accompanied by thunderstorms. Monsoon clouds are also expected to remain active over Chhattisgarh and eastern Madhya Pradesh. The weather department has advised special caution in areas vulnerable to lightning strikes.
Heavy Rain Forecast for Northeastern States
Rainfall activity is expected to be most intense across northeastern India. Widespread rainfall is likely in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Several locations may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Parts of Assam and Meghalaya may witness waterlogging and localised flooding due to excessive rainfall. Landslide risks may also remain in hilly regions. Rising water levels in rivers and reservoirs are possible due to continuous rainfall, and local administrations have been advised to remain alert.
Monsoon to Remain Active in Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat
Monsoon activity is expected to continue across several parts of Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat. Konkan and Goa regions may receive moderate to heavy rainfall. Intermittent showers are also likely in Mumbai and surrounding areas. Parts of central Maharashtra and Vidarbha may witness rain accompanied by thunderstorms. Southern and coastal districts of Gujarat may receive light to moderate rainfall. Humidity levels may increase due to moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea, although rainfall is expected to bring some relief from higher temperatures.
Heavy Rain Likely in Kerala and Karnataka
Weather conditions are expected to remain active across southern India as well. Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are likely to witness rainfall. Moderate to heavy rain is expected at several places in Kerala and coastal Karnataka. Interior Karnataka may also receive rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. Some districts of Tamil Nadu may witness light to moderate rainfall, while Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are likely to experience showers along with strong winds.
