PM Modi and Japans PM Inaugurate Maruti Suzukis Mega Plant in Haryana

New Delhi, July 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi inaugurated Maruti Suzuki India’s state-of-the-art vehicle manufacturing unit in IMT Kharkhoda, Haryana, via video conferencing during the India-Japan Joint Economic Forum held in the national capital.

Spread over approximately 800 acres, this integrated manufacturing complex has been developed alongside a modern supplier park. Once fully operational, it will rank among the largest vehicle manufacturing units in the world.

Production has already commenced at the plant, which has an initial capacity of 500,000 vehicles per year. The next phase will see this capacity increased to 1 million vehicles annually. The company plans to invest a total of ₹35,000 crores in this project, which is expected to create direct employment for over 21,000 people upon completion.

The Kharkhoda plant has been developed under Suzuki’s ‘Smart Factory’ concept, incorporating Industry 5.0 technologies aimed at enhancing production quality, safety, and productivity. Sustainable technologies such as solar energy, biogas, battery energy storage systems, and green energy will also be integrated, with the entire electricity requirement sourced from renewable energy.

This inauguration marks a significant milestone in Maruti Suzuki’s journey of over four decades in India and is seen as a step towards strengthening the strategic economic partnership between India and Japan.

Once fully operational, the Kharkhoda plant will play a crucial role in helping Maruti Suzuki achieve its goal of an annual production capacity of 4 million vehicles.

Toshihiro Suzuki of the Suzuki Group described the project as historic, expressing pride that the inauguration was conducted by Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Takaichi. He noted that the plant’s capacity would be increased from 500,000 to 1 million vehicles per year, making it one of the largest automobile manufacturing units globally.

He emphasized that this project symbolizes the success of the India-Japan partnership and the ‘Make in India’ initiative, attributing Suzuki’s rapid investment, job creation, exports, and technological development in India to the favorable policy environment created by the Modi government.

Highlighting India’s growing significance, Toshihiro Suzuki mentioned that the group’s first battery electric vehicle, the e-Vitara, is being manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s plant in Gujarat, from where this electric SUV will be exported to 100 countries worldwide.
