Chennai, July 12: The India Meteorological Department has predicted moderate rainfall in the districts adjacent to the Western Ghats in Tamil Nadu until July 16. Meanwhile, most other parts of the state are expected to remain predominantly dry over the next few days.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, light rain may occur in various areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Sunday. The weather department indicated that moderate rainfall is likely to continue in the Western Ghats districts until Thursday, providing relief to hilly regions. However, from Monday onwards, dry weather is anticipated across most parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Meteorologists noted that there are currently no signs of widespread rainfall in the plains of the state, with only light and scattered showers expected at a few locations.
In the meantime, the weather department has warned that daytime temperatures may rise in the coming days. The maximum temperature in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry is likely to be about 3 degrees Celsius above normal, leading to increased heat and humidity in several areas.
In the capital city of Chennai, the sky will be partially cloudy on Sunday, but no rain is expected. The maximum temperature may reach around 38 degrees Celsius, resulting in hot and humid weather conditions.
The weather department has advised people to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during the afternoon and to stay hydrated.
Additionally, a warning has been issued for fishermen regarding the Arabian Sea. Strong winds of up to 55 kilometers per hour are expected in some parts of the central-eastern Arabian Sea until Wednesday. Fishermen are advised to exercise caution while venturing out to sea.
According to the weather department, due to the current status of the southwest monsoon, rainfall activities will primarily be limited to the Western Ghats regions, while most parts of Tamil Nadu will continue to experience dry weather. The department stated that it is continuously monitoring the weather situation and will issue further advisories as necessary.
