Monza (Italy), September 8 (Kiran News). Defending world champion Max Verstappen returned to winning ways on Sunday by clinching the Italian Grand Prix, halting McLaren’s dominance in the ongoing Formula 1 season. Starting from pole, the Red Bull driver delivered a flawless performance to secure his first victory since May.

Verstappen overcame McLaren duo Lando Norris and championship leader Oscar Piastri to take the chequered flag. On Saturday, the Dutchman had already made headlines by recording the fastest lap in Formula 1 history during qualifying to claim pole position.
Despite his Monza triumph, Verstappen faces an uphill task in the drivers’ championship, as he trails Piastri by 94 points. Piastri finished third in the race and continues to lead the overall standings, 31 points ahead of Norris, who secured second place.
McLaren has dominated this season, winning all but four Grands Prix so far. Verstappen’s Italian GP victory marks only his third win of the campaign, adding to his earlier success at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in May.
For Ferrari fans, it was another day of disappointment as Charles Leclerc could only manage fourth place. Seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton, who was handed a five-place grid penalty, started from 10th but fought back to finish sixth. However, he could not get past his former Mercedes teammate George Russell, who held on to fifth.
