World Cup Qualifier: Germany Beat Northern Ireland 3-1 to End Winless Run

Berlin, September 8 (Kiran News). Germany bounced back strongly from their defeat to Slovakia with a 3-1 win over Northern Ireland in a FIFA World Cup Group A qualifier on Sunday. The victory ended Germany’s four-match winless streak.

Germany Beat Northern Ireland

Coach Julian Nagelsmann made five changes to his starting XI following Thursday’s 0-2 loss in Bratislava, and the move paid off early. In the 7th minute, Serge Gnabry opened the scoring with a fine strike over goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell after receiving a pass from Nick Woltemade. Germany created further chances, but Woltemade and David Raum failed to capitalise.

Northern Ireland, who had beaten Luxembourg in their opening match, gradually found rhythm and equalised in the 34th minute. Isaac Price converted a volley from Justin Devenny’s corner, making it 1-1 at half-time.

Peacock-Farrell denied Pascal Gross and Raum early in the second half, but Nagelsmann’s substitutions turned the tide. Nadiem Amiri, introduced in the 60th minute, scored his first international goal in the 69th minute to restore Germany’s lead. Just three minutes later, Florian Wirtz produced the moment of the match with a stunning free-kick, sealing a 3-1 victory.

Despite late attacking efforts, Northern Ireland could not threaten Germany’s lead.

With this win, Germany snapped their winless run and will next host Luxembourg in Sinsheim on October 10, while Northern Ireland will face Slovakia in Belfast.

After the match, Nagelsmann said: “We started well and took the lead, but conceding the equaliser unsettled us. In the last 30 minutes, we showed our real quality. Before that, the game was a bit shaky.”
