Lavrov visits India as Moscow pushes for friendly countries to move to a ‘new world order’

New Delhi, March 31 : Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrives Thursday on a two-day visit for talks on India’s purchase of Russian oil and on the rupee-ruble payment, even as he has stated that Russia, China and its sympathizers are moving towards a “multipolar, just, democratic world order”. Speaking at Tunxi in China, Lavrov said that “the West has been the world’s dominant player for over 500 years now. Different era, forming of multipolar international order, is now here. Global economic development hubs pursuing a nationally oriented policy have risen and they do not want to accept neoliberal values imposed by West.” Lavrov said “a new reality is taking shape: the polar world is irretrievably receding into the past and a multi-polar world is being born. This is an objective process that cannot be stopped. There won’t be one single ruler in this new reality”. “We are seeing attempts by US, EU & NATO to impose their hegemony on others, not only in the Balkans but also in the rest of the world –virtually everywhere else. I am convinced that most of the countries realise that this is the path to a deadlock.” “Isolation doesn’t exist and is brought up exclusively by those who mentally and ideologically have resigned themselves to inevitability of a Western dictatorship on global stage. This dictatorship is supported primarily by West itself which is loathe to lose its positions.” He also said that Moscow would work with Iran to take practical steps to circumvent Western sanctions. Tehran has also pledged to help Russia after it softened its demand for JCPOA guarantees. Lavrov arrives on Thursday evening. He will hold talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday afternoon. RN
