Kolkata, June 29: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has adopted a strong stance on the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in West Bengal. BJP leader Rahul Sinha stated that Mamata Banerjee is now isolated and that the UCC will be enforced in Bengal.
Speaking to reporters, Sinha remarked, “Mamata Banerjee is alone; what can she do? Both Mamata and Abhishek Banerjee are not in the assembly. All those present in the assembly are against Mamata. She is currently the leader of the smallest party; she has been expelled from the Trinamool Congress.”
He emphasized, “I am stating clearly that the Uniform Civil Code will be implemented in Bengal. UCC is already in effect in three states; West Bengal will be the fourth. The country is one, the people are one, so the law should also be one.”
Sinha criticized Banerjee, saying, “What will happen with complaints from someone who lacks numbers? She claims to represent the Trinamool, but she has no numbers. She has neither MLAs nor MPs. All TMC members have deserted her. They lost the elections, yet she still claims to be the Chief Minister. The Governor has pushed her out. If Mamata Banerjee values her self-respect, she should leave politics.”
BJP MLA Sarbari Mukherjee stressed the necessity of UCC, stating, “UCC is crucial in Bengal. The demographics are changing; the border areas have undergone a complete demographic shift, which is a concern for the entire country. Just as the triple talaq was beneficial for Muslims, the UCC bill will also provide similar advantages. The BJP and the West Bengal government are fighting for equality.”
BJP spokesperson Debjit Sarkar added, “Mamata had stated that UCC would not be implemented, but she is no longer in power, so it will be enforced. Our government is set to implement it, and discussions will commence from tomorrow.”
