Haridwar, June 29: The Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad has expressed its support for Madhya Pradesh government minister Kailash Vijayvargiya’s comments regarding the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Mahant Ravindra Puri, the president of the Akhada Parishad, along with media coordinator Karoli Shankar Maharaj, emphasized the need for self-reflection and reform in large organizations to maintain discipline and enhance operational effectiveness.
In an interview, Mahant Ravindra Puri stated that as any family or organization expands, it inevitably brings both strengths and weaknesses. He noted that since the BJP government came to power in 2014, many RSS volunteers have taken on various governmental responsibilities, leading to the emergence of certain challenges and shortcomings over time. He remarked that while older members of the RSS lived by values of sacrifice and morality, the current generation has grown up in a materialistic environment, which has led to the emergence of some undesirable practices. He clarified that Vijayvargiya’s comments were not meant to criticize anyone but to draw attention to the need for improvement within the organization.
Mahant Puri expressed hope that the RSS leadership would take such complaints seriously and act accordingly. He stressed that any complaints against provincial or district pracharaks or other workers should be addressed promptly, as delaying decisions can turn minor issues into major problems. Citing the example of Uttarakhand, he noted that positive reforms have been observed at various levels since the arrival of a new provincial pracharak.
He further explained that in the ascetic community, there is a saying, “Too many ascetics can ruin the monastery,” indicating that as an organization expands and people from diverse backgrounds join, capable leadership is essential to maintain coordination and discipline. Senior RSS officials should take necessary steps to strengthen both the organization’s image and its operational style. In today’s information age, even minor incidents can reach the world quickly, making integrity, ethics, and character crucial for public figures. Any wrongdoing by an RSS volunteer can adversely affect the entire organization’s reputation. Given the RSS’s significant contributions to disaster relief, social service, and national crises, maintaining a positive image requires special attention to discipline and conduct.
Karoli Shankar Maharaj also supported Vijayvargiya’s remarks, stating that the comments were made not out of animosity but from a familial perspective aimed at improvement. He likened the need for reflection in large organizations to that of a vast banyan tree, which requires corrective measures if any hollowness develops within.
He concluded by affirming that the RSS’s ideology is closely tied to Indian culture and Hindu society, and any issues within the organization should be openly discussed and addressed. The top leadership of the RSS is committed to working seriously in this direction, and necessary reforms will be evident in the future.
