UDAIPUR, June 7 (Udaipur Kiran) : Police on Sunday arrested 11 accused, including three pastors from Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, in connection with an alleged religious conversion case involving tribal families in Udaipur. The incident was reported on Saturday in Kanuwada Bilkhai village under the Rishabhdev police station area.
According to sources, the pastors allegedly told people to leave the Hindu faith, claiming that their illnesses would be cured and that they would receive economic benefits. To attract tribal families, they were also allegedly offered assistance for the construction of wells and tube wells in their fields.
Police sources said complaints were received from victims alleging that inducements and threats were being used to encourage conversion to Christianity. The investigation is underway, and the mobile phones and bank accounts of the accused are being examined.
According to police sources, a prayer meeting had been taking place for the last two days in Kanuwada Bilkhai village under the leadership of Babulal. People from more than 20 nearby villages had been invited. Acting on information provided by villager Nanalal, police reached the spot and found more than 200 people present. Those attending were allegedly being encouraged to leave the Hindu faith and adopt Christianity.
Complainant Nanalal alleged that poor tribal families had been targeted for several days and that an atmosphere conducive to religious conversion had been created. He stated that he had also been invited to the gathering and was offered inducements to change his religion along with his entire family.
Meanwhile, Udaipur MP Manna Lal Rawat visited Rishabhdev on Sunday to review the situation. He visited Kanuwada Bilkhai village and interacted with local residents. Rawat said there was no need for anyone to be afraid and urged people to immediately report any pressure related to religious conversion to the police.
