Jaishankar Meets Indonesian Counterpart Ahead of BRICS 2026 Summit

New Delhi, May 14: The BRICS Summit 2026 is set to commence on Thursday. Ahead of the two-day conference, India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met with his Indonesian counterpart, Retno Marsudi.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi arrived in the national capital on Wednesday. Ethiopian Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos Hessebon has also reached New Delhi to participate in the summit, as confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs on social media platform X.

The high-level meeting will be chaired by Minister Jaishankar and is expected to see participation from foreign ministers and senior representatives of BRICS member countries. Leaders and delegations from various nations are beginning to arrive in New Delhi for the meeting.

This will be the first major ministerial meeting under India’s BRICS presidency, and it is anticipated to play a crucial role in setting the agenda for the BRICS leaders’ summit scheduled for later this year.

During a weekly media briefing held in New Delhi, the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that senior diplomats from participating countries will attend the meeting. The ministry also outlined the broad framework for discussions during the two-day meeting.

According to the Ministry, the meeting of BRICS foreign ministers is scheduled for May 14 and 15, with India presiding over the proceedings.

The discussions will primarily focus on key regional and global developments, strengthening multilateral cooperation among member countries, and advancing reforms in international governance structures in light of changing geopolitical realities. The ministry stated that participating countries will determine their own level of representation, with more information about delegations to be shared once representatives arrive in New Delhi.

Delegates attending the summit will also meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their visit to the national capital.

It is noteworthy that India recently unveiled the official logo and website for its BRICS 2026 presidency. Officials indicated that this year’s summit theme reflects India’s “Humanity First” and people-centric approach, which Prime Minister Modi emphasized during the BRICS summit held in Rio de Janeiro in 2025.
