iOS 17.4 Released With New Emoji, Support for Third-Party App Stores in the EU, More

Apple released the iOS 17.4 update on Wednesday (March 6), along with iPadOS 17.4 as the latest version of the operating system for supported iPhone models. The update brings long-awaited support for third-party app stores in the European Union, where Apple must comply with the new Digital Markets Act (DMA). iOS 17.4 includes improvements such as new emoticons, battery interface changes for iPhone 15 models, Apple Podcasts transcripts, and improved stolen device protection. Additionally, iOS 17.4 allows EU users to choose payment services other than Apple Pay. It also includes some security fixes and patches.

iOS 17.4 is now available for download as the latest software update for supported iPhone models. The new iOS version brings big changes to European iPhone models. With iOS 17.4, users in EU countries can download alternative app stores and install apps from outside the Apple Store. Additionally, EU users will get new standard app controls and more options for in-app payments. Safari has also received improvements that allow users to choose new default browser options. The DMA mandates these changes in the European Union.

Apple brings new emojis for iPhone users with iOS 17.4. New mushroom, phoenix, lime, broken chain and nod emoticons are now available on your emoticon keyboard. The latest version of iOS allows users to automatically transcribe podcasts into English, Spanish, French and German.

iOS 17.4 patch improves stolen device protection. Siri adds a new option to announce the messages you receive in supported languages. With Music Recognition, you can now add recognized songs to your Apple Music playlists and library, as well as Apple Music Classic.

Additionally, Battery Health in Settings now displays battery cycle count, manufacturing date, and first use for iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models. This update includes caller ID improvements, business updates to messaging, and Apple Cash virtual card numbers. The iOS 17.4 update also fixes the Find My Contact Photo issue and the dual SIM issue.
