Riyadh, September 2: The US Embassy has advised its citizens residing in Saudi Arabia to remain vigilant amid ongoing tensions following attacks on Iran and subsequent retaliatory actions. The American mission in Saudi Arabia issued a security alert indicating that the security situation in the region remains complex, and sudden escalations cannot be ruled out.
The alert was shared on the social media platform X on Wednesday. According to the statement, American citizens in the Middle East should exercise heightened caution. They are advised to prepare for potential flight cancellations, airspace closures, and travel disruptions, and to check the status of their flights directly with the relevant airlines.
The security alert emphasized that US citizens should stay updated on the latest information regarding airport operations and airlines in the region.
Additionally, the American mission warned that US diplomatic establishments outside the Middle East could also be targeted. It stated that Iran and Iran-backed groups may target American interests in various parts of the world, including American citizens, US-affiliated locations, American companies, and other institutions.
The embassy noted that regular and emergency consular services are available for American citizens in Saudi Arabia. Citizens are encouraged to contact the nearest US embassy or consulate if needed.
US citizens were also advised to register in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive the latest security updates and ensure easier contact with the embassy in case of emergencies.
In the event of airstrikes, citizens are advised to stay away from glass doors and windows and to avoid fallen debris. They are also encouraged to keep their mobile phones charged and to save emergency numbers in advance.
The American mission urged citizens to completely avoid demonstrations and large gatherings, steer clear of areas with heavy police presence, monitor local media and authorities’ instructions, and remain alert to their surroundings. They were also advised to exercise special caution in public spaces connected to the US and to minimize their visibility.
This warning comes at a time when tensions in the Middle East remain high, with increasing concerns over military activities and potential retaliatory actions. The US Embassy has advised citizens to be prepared for any unexpected changes in the situation and to rely on the latest official information when making travel decisions.
