Harare, 7 July 2024 – India triumphed over Zimbabwe by 100 runs in the second T20 match. Winning the toss at Harare Sports Club on Sunday, India opted to bat first. Abhishek Sharma’s century and Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 77 helped India set a formidable target of 234 runs, marking the highest score by any team against Zimbabwe in T20s. The previous highest was 229 runs, set by Australia in 2018.
In response, Zimbabwe was bowled out for 134 runs. This victory by a margin of 100 runs is India’s largest win against Zimbabwe in terms of runs. Previously, India had defeated Zimbabwe by 71 runs during the 2022 T20 World Cup in Melbourne. Among Indian bowlers, Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar took 3 wickets each, while Ravi Bishnoi claimed 2 wickets.
Abhishek Sharma’s century came off just 47 balls, making it the first century by an Indian batter against Zimbabwe in T20s. His innings included 7 fours and 8 sixes. Abhishek also shared a 132-run partnership for the second wicket with Ruturaj Gaikwad. Rinku Singh contributed a rapid 48 runs off just 22 balls. For Zimbabwe, opener Wesley Madhevere scored 43 runs.
With this victory, India has leveled the 5-match series 1-1, bouncing back from the defeat in the first T20. The third T20 match will be played in Harare on 10 July.
