Heavy Rain Alert Across India from May 3–5

New Delhi, May 2 (Udaipur Kiran): Pre-monsoon activity is set to intensify across the country, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a heavy rain alert for multiple states on May 3, 4, and 5.

Pre-monsoon conditions have already started impacting several regions, bringing rainfall in parts of the country. The current trend indicates that this activity will pick up pace in the coming days. Experts have earlier indicated the possibility of strong rainfall in 2026, although the impact of El Niño is also being closely watched.

Northwest India:
Pre-monsoon activity is expected to strengthen over northwest India. The IMD has issued an alert for heavy rainfall in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh during May 3–5. Light to moderate rainfall is also likely at several places. Strong winds, dust storms, and thunderstorms are expected, with wind speeds ranging between 30–40 kmph.

South India:
Weather conditions have also changed across southern states. Heavy rainfall is likely in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Mahe, Yanam, Karaikal, and Rayalaseema during the same period. Strong winds at speeds of 30–50 kmph, thunderstorms, and lightning are also expected.

East and Central India:
Pre-monsoon activity will intensify in eastern and central regions as well. The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall at several places and light rainfall at others across Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Sikkim, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha between May 3 and 5. Strong winds, dust storms, thunderstorms, and lightning are expected, with chances of hailstorms in some areas. Wind speeds may reach 50–70 kmph.

Northeast India:
Weather conditions have also turned active in the northeastern region. The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya during May 3–5. Strong winds with speeds of 50–70 kmph, thunderstorms, and lightning are also likely.
